Background of the customer case of Resin-Bonded and Vitrified-Bonded Diamond Grinding Wheels for HVOF Coated Roll Machining
One of our customers specializes in HVOF (High Voltage Oxygen Fuel Spray) coated rolls and uses diamond grinding wheels of different materials to process large size rolls (roll size OD1500 x L3100mm). During this process, the customer conducted a comparison test between two diamond grinding wheels with different bonding agents, i.e. resin bond and ceramic bond, in order to find the most suitable grinding tool for machining HVOF tungsten and ceramic rolls.
Test Comparison of Resin-Bonded and Vitrified-Bonded Diamond Grinding Wheels
The specifications of the diamond grinding wheels used by the customer are as follows:
Resin bond diamond grinding wheel: size D50-H12-T6-5X, showing good wear stability, the color of the wheel is brown, the customer is very satisfied with its wear resistance.
Vitrified bond diamond grinding wheel: size D75-H20-T20-W10-X10, granularity D181, color green, the customer reflects that the wear speed of this bond is too fast, and it can't achieve the ideal processing effect.
Customer Feedback
In particular, the customer pointed out that the brown grinding wheel with resin bond performs well in the machining of HVOF-coated rolls, has a long service life, and is able to effectively cope with the high abrasive wear generated during the grinding process. However, the green grinding wheel with ceramic bond showed faster wear when processing the same workpiece, leading to frequent replacement and affecting productivity.
The customer wishes to obtain ceramic bond grinding wheels of the same quality as the resin bond brown grinding wheels in future orders to further improve machining efficiency and reduce wear costs.
Moresuperhard's Solution and Technical Support
In response to the customer's needs, we immediately provided targeted technical services. First, we communicated with the customer in detail about the machining conditions and material characteristics of the workpiece, especially the hardness and machining requirements of the HVOF tungsten material and the ceramic roll. Then, our technical team readjusted the formula of ceramic bond diamond grinding wheel for the customer, by optimizing the abrasive granularity and bond formula to improve its wear performance and durability.
After several tests and adjustments, we successfully provided the customer with a new ceramic bond grinding wheel that meets their expectations with better wear resistance and stability, ensuring that the customer can enjoy the same or even better performance than the resin bond brown grinding wheel when machining large size rolls.
Conclusion
This case not only demonstrates our ability to provide high quality products, but also highlights our strong technical service support and quick response capability. Whether in the product design stage or in subsequent adjustments, we have always worked closely with our customers to ensure that each product meets their needs. In future cooperation, we will continue to provide efficient customized solutions to help customers improve production efficiency and processing quality.
